about
When Seth Diamond approached Wesley Willis to solicit a track for Everybody Wants To Be Like Jed, Wesley was very enthusiastic.
"I will write you the song that is about Jed Davis," he said. Seth asked Wesley if there was anything he needed to know about me before he proceeded to write the song.
"I will WRITE you the song that is about Jed Davis!" Wesley replied.
Getting Wesley to turn in the finished track was almost impossible. Voices in his head would derail him every time he went to mail out the CD-R. Also, it didn't help that Wesley lived in some sort of group home - every time Neal or Seth called him, a different person would answer the phone and explain two things: first, that Wesley was very, very famous; second, that he was not home because he was out on tour. They would say this even if Wesley was just gone for the afternoon.
After months of trying, Neal finally set up a rendezvous between Wesley and Chicago resident Aaron Haber. They were to meet at a Kinko's, where Wesley would hand over the recording. Aaron was running late, so Neal actually had to call the Kinko's and ask to speak to Wesley Willis.
"Jed Davis" was submitted on a CD-R which contains what appears to be an entire Wesley Willis album, including songs about the Ramones, Dee Dee Ramone, Material Issue, and tunes like "Suck a Baboon's Cock" and "Fuck Yourself." If anyone knows whether this album ever came out, please let me know.
Rest in peace, Wesley... wherever you are, I hope the voices in your head are no longer cussin at you.
